Top Tips for Summer

Don't drop your guard during the better weather!

  • If you're out in the back garden enjoying the sun, remember not to leave the front door of your property open to an opportunist thief!
  • Remember to put garden tools and games away and to lock sheds and garages after using items from them
  • Look around your garden: if you see anything that could be used to break into your home, secure it down or lock it away
  • If going out for the day, think about whether it will be light by the time you get back. If not, set a timer to switch on a light.
  • Remember to close and re-lock windows before going out or to bed
  • When enjoying a day out in the countryside, put all your belongings out of sight and take your bag with you. Even an old coat left in the car could be enough to tempt an opportunist - it might have a wallet in the pocket!
  • If you're going to the beach, carry your valuables in a water-proof pouch or water-tight tube
  • If you own a caravan, while you're away, ask a neighbour to use your standing space as a car parking space so it looks as if someone is there.
